The Care for Creation Committee was formed in January 2021 in response to our study of Laudato Si. Pope Francis sees the “ecological crisis” as a summons to profound interior conversion, to seek the integrity of human life, linking respect for human life and dignity with care for the natural world. A Lenten series offered suggestions for Individual and communal actions, including reflections and spiritual practices, weekly action suggestions, urging changes in practices and attitudes, and a collection of vegetarian recipes to encourage eating of plant-based foods. We cosponsored “Introduction to Drawdown” and are offering a series of films/discussions to highlight the intersection of racial injustice and environmental injustice. We plan to advocate for legislative progress locally, statewide and nationally. We integrate caring for the earth in our liturgies, and use the Season of Creation themes as well.
Tree of Life – Molly Cameron
An eco-actions program, part of Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions, tracks individual climate action and offers support in implementing climate solutions. People of faith are helped to develop local solutions to the climate crisis. Advocacy Teams focus on legislation and support other groups in regional efforts.
Elders Climate Action – Sylvia Diss
Through monthly programs at the national as well as local level, they create connections with elders their communities, and encourage effective action on climate change. Support state and county legislation, and regulatory actions to protect the earth.
