Syrian Family Fund – Marian Klymkowsky
Supports three Syrian Refugee Families. This fund has been in existence since 2016 and funds emergency family needs as they arise. One member (and her 3 children) became a naturalized U.S. citizen in March 2021. PAX members continue to support the other family members toward U.S. Citizenship
Food for Others – Kathy Brentin
The Food for Others from Elizabeth program began in 2008.
PAX has for many decades donated food and money to numerous local food pantries and programs.
Christmas Outreach – Megan Hookey
The PAX Community has a long-standing tradition of inviting community members (and others) to support an annual Christmas outreach effort. Acting on suggestions from the community, local schools and support groups, we collectively provide over 130 gifts and gift card to individuals and families who are in need during the holiday season.
Martha’s Table – Marie Dennis
For many years the Pax Community has collected Thanksgiving turkeys for neighbors in need. It has become a national model for service-based nonprofits, to help kids succeed in school, help parents contribute to their children’s success, and end childhood hunger. There is a training center for parents with children enrolled in the organization’s education programs, a mobile market partnership plan with a number of pop up, free grocery markets throughout the city. It has teamed up with the Capital Area Food Bank on its Joyful Food Markets initiative, which brings fresh, healthy produced and groceries to elementary schools in Wards 7 and 8. Also included is McKenna’s Wagon, providing help to vulnerable populations by providing lunch and dinner daily to hundreds of homeless and low-income people, emergency grocery bags and weekday meals.
First Baptist Church Chesterbrook – Bob Merrill
Strong relationships including liturgical celebrations, are being forged with the oldest Black Baptist congregation in Fairfax County, as they seek justice and peace for their congregation and the surrounding communities.
I Hear Your Voice – Myrtle Hendricks
I Hear Your Voice Mission Group offers support to community members who are survivors of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and harassment and to those who are giving emotional support to a loved one who is a survivor. The mission group’s efforts are also education and social outreach.
SNDC (Social Needs Disbursement Committee)
Financially supports local charities in which our presiders and/or members are directly involved – smaller, local charities are preferred.
PIN (People in Need) Cushion Fund
Supports individuals in financial need as PAX members refer them to the Committee. PIN Cushion receives 10% of any SNDC allotment as well as 100% of our Christmas Eve collections.
